Feather Back

Back when I was working at Blizzard Entertainment, had the chance to work with Corel Painter quite a bit. For about two years I didn't even open the program. About five months ago I started my subscription to Imagine FX magazine and noticed that they had some really great tutorials for painting in Photoshop and in Painter. I took these tutorials to heart and really started getting myself in gear to get painting people again. Although I paint in Photoshop quite a bit, I felt that it was time to start using Painter again. I had forgotten how fun the program really is. Now that I am back teaching at the Art Institute of California-Orange County, I feel that I need to stay on top of my game as to not fall behind in all forms of artistic expression. The idea for this image comes from when I was a little kid my mom and dad took me to Las Vegas. We were in some casino and I remember seeing this woman that had her face painted as a bird....It has always stuck me as a sign of beauty....

I always liked the idea that when you die you "go into the light". Well here is my creative representation of that concept. Using a mix of 3ds Max and photshop, I was able to get the effect that I was going for in my thumbnail sketch. In Photoshop i used sponge type brushes for the hazy, almost ethereal look and feel. I am pleased with how it turned out. I hope you are too. Inspired by the new album "The Open Door" by Evanescence.

I have had this idea for sometime now. I had this little building model that I created quite a while ago and I have my D`juli character, so I decided to put them in a cool new scene. I like the thought of a futuristic Hawaii. I don’t know why, but it works for me. I have never used HDRI lighting with the standard scanline renderer in 3ds Max before and anyone that has been in the tropics knows that the Sun has a radiant glow effect off of buildings. Which can give some architecture an ethereal look. I think that it turned out really well. It reminds me of a post card. This is my kind of place and look! They serve Guinness!

Ancient Protoss Temple Has Been Activated 2.0

Here are the temples in all of their glory. The idea finalized into what you see here. These ancient temples emitted this energy that kept the planets jungles alive. Only the jungles couldn’t grow outside of the area in which the emitters could not reach. So on Alamar, we would have bleak and desolate deserts spotted with these lush and brooding jungles. Only the ships are 3d renders. Th rest was painted by me in Photoshop.
Pretty cool huh?
